I tackled this work through movement rather than structure, trying to show the emotional and actual weight of clothing –as fashion and as dress. Clothing has for me a way of being just as scary as setting movement, which in part led me to choose my choreographic method.
I experimented also with building narrative for the first time. Do sensory and emotional experiences have an inherent narrative structure? What is an approach to story that is unique to dance?
Through these new approaches to building my work, The Physical Space of Clothing grapples with the collision between internal and external, experience and display, being different and belonging.
